As always we end Jia’Xins year’s activities where we first started in 2012, hanging out with the wonderful kids of ChingChuan! (English below)

Rufen led the class in creating sewless plushies, showing her cute sample pig that she made at home. This time we had even more wonderful surprises – Malinda Schultz leading a Mandala session and a delicious plant-based main course prepped by Ooh Cha Cha!
Hoping to be more environmentally friendly in the future, Bright Side has begun banning plastic bottles that can be brought to workshops and look into recycled goods for the materials we use. Bright Side Projects generally bans gift-giving of toys except during our end of the year activities. This time, however, we decided to empower kids to make their own toys. Utilizing secondhand fabrics that could be made into sewless plushies kids were in charge of brainstorming, drawing, and creating their own toys.
The morning consisted of the plushies creation. Children and Big Friends were hands on in designing and getting the adorables plushies finished up by lunchtime. Kid were so creative with the shapes and Big Friends really were there to work together with some of the younger kids as the tying could get a little bit difficult. We had plushies resembling lopsided cats, bats, basketball pillows, hearts, and sheep clouds! Lunch was served with one of Taipei’s top plant-based café Ooh Cha Cha’s delicious seasonal gluten-free Bounty Stew, one that’s packed stew filled with purple, orange and yellow sweet potatoes, eggplant, organic chickpeas, organic lentils, and organic spinach.
Malinda took the second half of the afternoon to talk about compassion and show us how to begin the creations for individual and a big group Mandala. The final art will be auctioned with proceeds benefiting a village in Nepal.
Today was a wonderful way for the kids to learn about the warm and compassion from Jia-Xin and also have the opportunity to pay if forward to others. Thanks to everyone who was with us this afternoon and shared in the meal and learning experience!
