We headed up to ChingChuan with Teacher Josette Penzel and a group of Big Friends to create vegan candies with the fun Atayal kids. This is a location Bright Side Projects has been returning to for over three years, creating workshops, making friends, and sharing plant-based foods.
We had many new friends this time but the kids adapted quickly to welcoming us and were ready to make and sneakily eat chocolate together.
Peanut butter sweet potato and banana cups were made in the first segment and with dozens of peanut butter cups solidifying in the fridge, we took a break to enjoy lunch. Our plant-based lunch included garlic tomato sauce pasta, fruit salad with coconut milk, and sandwich rolls with avocado, salted konjac strips, fresh tomatoes, seasoned mushrooms, and veganaise!
After lunch we continued with chocolate truffles, as well as simple Halloween-esque décor was hand-made by the kids.
We decided to go with some “frightful” temporary tattoos instead of painting on our own faces and it was with these ghoulish “scars” kids made their own Halloween bags and decor for our bake sale.
The clean up with cocoa powder and chocolate was extensive but it was a wonderful day. On October 31st we sold these vegan candies made by kids and raised $5,200 NTD for local charity Animals Taiwan and invested the monies back into future workshops. Along with the proceeds from Vegan Affair’s EAT FOR LOVE campaign, 23,503 NT will be donated in all. Showing them how their art and creativity can be shifted into positive action to impact others is empowering!
