睽違10年，嚮光「小火山歷險記」又來到清泉了！與孩子們一起製作小火山，利用簡單的科學實驗，結合藝術創意與地理常識，讓孩子們體驗火山噴發的過程。

製作火山前，我們跟孩子介紹火山的小常識：火山的基本原理和台灣的火山分佈。通過簡單生動的講解，孩子了解到火山的形成過程、不同類型的火山。同時猜一猜台灣火山的分布「陽明山！」孩子大聲自信地回答著～
接著來到製作火山環節，我們使用過期麵粉、鹽巴和水等簡單材料，並利用舊報紙進行火山塑型，我們以最天然的麵粉糰以及報紙固定火山模型。火山定型後，讓孩子們以顏料對火山進行了生動的彩繪，每一筆一劃都充滿了他們的創意和興奮。
等待火山晾乾的愉快時光，我們與孩子們一同享用了精心準備的全植餐點，包括造型別緻的馬型排、純素紅醬薑黃飯、香味四溢的煎餃、冰冰涼涼的水蜜桃紅茶，以及孩子們最愛的水果沙拉～
吃飽喝足後，舉辦了一場小型的科學實驗，嚮光準備了小蘇打和各種液體，如檸檬汁、醋和油，與孩子們一起探索哪種組合能產生最強烈的化學反應。經過實驗，我們找到了最佳的搭配，使火山模型的「爆發」效果令孩子們驚喜連連，他們紛紛為火山的「噴發」喝彩。
在火山爆發前，我們讓孩子們分成小組，各自擔任小編劇和小導演，利用手機錄製火山噴發的過程。當火山模型瞬間變成活火山，泡泡水噴發的情景讓孩子們笑得合不攏嘴，享受著每一次的泡泡冒出，大家都感到非常有成就感和滿足。
成為小小科學家，不僅讓孩子們對火山及其化學反應有了深入的理解。
希望這次活動能激發孩子們對科學探索的興趣，使他們在日常生活中更加願意發現和探索各種化學反應的奇妙現象。
Our little chemistry class and our volcanoes made their way back to ChingChuan since 2013. The faces of the youth may have changed but their smiles and reaction to the exploding volcanoes have not!
Learning the basics about volcanoes – the different types, where’s the biggest, how many are in Taiwan, etc, it’s interesting how much the kids now know about volcanoes versus when we first taught the class a decade ago.
Gathering expired flour from several people, we first made clay for the volcanoes with the kids and then proceeded to paint some leftover cardboard to serve as the backdrop for their “dangerous” mountains. It was super cool also to see the different artistic methods each group incorporated for the backgrounds – some went with the skies and trees while others try a more abstract paint splatter concept (fun to do but a mess to clean!).
Letting it all dry, volcano clays were flattened out and laid onto balls of crumbled election papers from 2020. We all enjoyed a sumptuous lunch of volcano and omnipork “dino” rice while we waited for everything to dry.
After lunch, we started our mini science experiment with an assortment of baking soda, oils, expired vinegars, flours, and other random objects so kids could assess what really blew up. They then proceeded to be able to tap into this science breathing life into their volcanic masterpieces.
Thank you to the kind folks for their support and donation such fun toys and delicious Omnipork “pony/dinos” for our volcanic mound of rice! Without the expired flour we would have also not been able to create the volcano clay – we love upcycling! Support kids to learn more about the world and science through creation!
