今年歲末，我們決定為嚮光社群嘗試一件特別的事——規劃一系列 DJ 工作坊。這是一項充滿挑戰、卻也極具回饋感的計畫。我們邀請多位充滿熱情與才華的 DJ 夥伴加入，延續歲末工作坊一貫的精神：回到「給予」本身。過去，我們曾以巧克力、貼圖或藝術作品作為禮物；而今年，我們希望送出的，是音樂。

透過音樂混音的創作，點燃情感、傳遞正能量，不只是給他人，也回饋給自己。這一年對許多人而言並不容易，而有時候，當擁抱或支持系統暫時缺席，一首歌，或許就能成為那個溫柔、療癒的安全港灣。
我們的第一站來到萬華據點與孩子們一起展開。第一位人選毫不猶豫—— DJ Marcus Aurelius ，他其實是兩年前就曾走進萬華的「大朋友」。那天下午，他為我們開啟了這條街的第一場小型派對，音量維持在對鄰里友善的範圍，低頻節奏卻足夠讓人感到興奮。雖然迎來了巡邏員警的關心確認，但一切安好，堪稱圓滿成功。
在教學上，我們選擇了 Serato 軟體，帶著孩子們從 DJ 的起源談起，理解這門文化如何隨著年代演進。他們不僅聽見音樂，也親身感受一般播放、刮碟與混音之間的差異，並隨之律動。萬華場次也特別邀請到兩位舞者加入，讓孩子們透過身體動作，探索自己對音樂的感受，並將 DJ 視為一種自我表達的方式。
孩子們輪流操作控制器與軟體，接著走進主 DJ 台，在由回收 DVD 拼貼而成的視覺背景前，與 Marcus Aurelius 一起演出。幾位大朋友也帶來了小道具，孩子們不只創作音樂，更自信地擺姿勢、享受舞台，彷彿走進一個全新的世界。
老實說，這是我們籌備過最具挑戰性的工作坊之一。即使事前拜訪多位 DJ 了解運作細節，仍深刻體會到 DJ 的專業門檻與深度，也因此更加敬佩。更令人驚喜的是，孩子們的學習速度，遠遠超出我們的想像！
衷心感謝每一位讓這一天如此美好的夥伴。下一站，我們將於一月前往清泉，持續這段音樂旅程。
當天也提供了全植餐點：暖心的靈魂食物——純植起司通心粉、純植炸雞腿，以及嚮光的招牌當季水果椰奶沙拉，為身心補充滿滿能量。
DJ Marcus Aurelius 已在台灣生活二十年，長期投入志工服務與社群回饋，特別是與 Mary’s Doggies 等動保組織合作，參與每年的「聖誕與毛孩」活動。我們由衷感謝這位行程滿檔的大朋友，在一個下雨的週六、連續兩場活動之間，仍特地前來，與孩子們共享這段珍貴時光！

We decided to have a little something special this year end that proved to be challenging but so rewarding – creation of DJ workshops for our communities with a passionate lineup of talented DJs. As per our “rule” for year end workshops, it has to be in the spirit of giving and from gourmet chocolates to LINE stickers, and artwork for animal welfare, this year we hope the gift would be music; creation of a medley to ignite emotion and positivity to others and themselves. It has been a difficult year for many and I know that sometimes if not a hug or support system, a song can be that therapeutic warm hug something that transports you into safety.
Our first destination and experimental site was with our Wanhua kids. Our first experimental and adventurous DJ who was the first that came to mind was of course DJ Marcus Aurelius – actually a Big Friend who had come to Wanhua two years ago. He kicked off our afternoon with this street’s first block party, a neighborhood noise friendly level bass and left us with the local police stopping by to make sure things were sound – a success all in all.
Serato was the choice of software as we led the kids into understanding what DJing was – from a quick history and it’s evolution through the decades and them hearing and also moving along with the difference of tracks in regular mode versus scratched or remixed. We were fortunate to have two amazing dancers for this session in Wanhua, allowing kids to get some movement into their body and also understanding more about themselves from their music choices and how it made it feel to how to utilize DJing as a form of expression. One by one they all had a turn with the controller and the Serato program, then they were able to head to the “main DJ booth” to scratch with Marcus Aurelius against a backdrop of upcycled DVDs for a studded visual effect.
Some little props were brought by our Big Friends and the kids loved not only being empowered to create music but pose. With DJ Marcus Aurelius by their side, these kids were transported into a new world behind the DJ table!
We won’t lie and confess that this was one of the most difficult workshops we had to anticipate even after visits to 4 different DJs to try to understand how it all worked – becoming a good DJ is no joke and we have a renowned sense of respect for DJing and also in awe that the kids beat us by picking it up so quickly.
We thank each and every one who made it to this day amazing! Onto our next session in ChingChuan in January!
A plant-based lunch was served, soul food in mac and cheese, fried chicken drumsticks, and the signature Bright Side Projects seasonal fruit salad with coconut milk.
DJ Marcus Aurelius has been in Taiwan for two decades, he has been actively involved in volunteering and giving back to the community, especially working with animal welfare organization such as Mary’s Doggies in their annual Santa with Pets party. We really want to thank this highly in-demand Big Friend for taking the time to stop by this rainy Saturday before two other events.
