Our sixth year via Santa Jia-Xin in providing gifts and necessities to around a dozen families in ChingChuan! It’s been an amazing journey to grow with the indigenous kids as we host edu-courses with them on a year-round basis and then being able to provide some necessities to families who would benefit the most in the same region has also connected us close with the communities. Thanks to Teacher Lin Hong Shiong for being our life line to the ChingChuan and again this time going around joining us to deliver the gifts to the households. Each time we need at least 2-3 vehicles full of items (including 44 KG / 22 bags of organic rice, the other 40KG was sent to Taitung) and fulfilled wishlists for each of the children in the families.
This year we had some stellar sweatshirts, beanies, earmuffs, and hats donated from Taiwanese streetwear brand DSSENT, adding an air of excitement in gifting for the kids who loved the fashionable apparel and accessories. Basketballs, shoes, and basic school supplies were also on many wishlists. Adorable bear and panda themed “stationary bags” were popular with the elementary school age children as well.
Each child was presented with a hand-made christmas card from Jia-Xin or one of her classmates, sent from the US with love and care. They took the time to create the cutest Christmas ornaments which we used to decor gift bags of warm socks for families.
For many of us, there is no greater joy than seeing the simplicity of a child’s real smile – we are so grateful for everyone that donated to us and supported our wishlist so that we could get organic rice from Hualien and basic plant-based food staples such as cooking oil, mushrooms, noodles to the families. As per tradition, we began planning not only for food staples three months but also our special holiday themed workshops to spend time with the kids to show them the holidays are not just about material objects. Planning, fundraising, purchase, wrapping, and delivering in person is something to personalize the experience is something that is very important to us. We hope that you can join us in a workshop in 2018 and get to know the kids and this community as well!
