KITCHEN TABLE

Freshly cooked nutritious vegetarian meal options have been available and promoted from our Kitchen Table at all events since 2012. Junk food and candy items are not permitted to be brought by Big Friends. In 2015 we are committed to providing plant-based meals and increasingly veering towards local, organic, unprocessed foods.

Providing nutritious and innovative freshly cooked vegetarian meals is important because creating and sharing food is a bonding experience. Eating is a very intimate act and also one that we can more easily control to change our lives and the planet. It’s also a great way to introduce new cultures with menu items ranging from Tibetan curries, Mexican chili, burritos, American styled “meat”loaf with mash potato and gravy, etc.

SOCIAL AWARENESS

Workshops always have a deeper message by trying to raise awareness of different social issues and how our lives are impacted by it. Curriculums strengthened by these contents increases the relevancy of the workshops to today’s major social issues such as diversity, environmental awareness, animal welfare, and others.

Daisy has led the Amnesty International English Chapter in Taipei for approximately two years and continues to be committed to various causes that betters the Earth. They will be working alongside others to add depth to Bright Side Projects workshops.

INTERACTIVE & INTIMATE

We don’t have just one teacher facing 30 kids. We attempt to bring a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio of “Big Friends” to “Kids,” to get more people involved and to enhance engagement with a 30 people maximum per workshop. Everyone shares in the task of setting up, sharing food, bringing workshops to fruition, and cleaning up. Teachers are required on the task of thus creating a 4-5 hour intensive yet fun workshop that enhances interaction and togetherness. Workshops generally take 65-90 hours worth of human hours from conception to detailed execution – with the same amount of time we could easily host an event for 75-125 people but want to keep these intimate.

GENDER FLUIDITY & EQUITY

We maintain a gender neutral zone and respect so that no one is limited or discriminated of their full potential based on a social construct. This is incorporated into our regular courses and interactions. Starting August 2015, we are working with the 台灣性別平等教育協會(Taiwan Gender Equity Education Association TGEEA to induct training for our Big Friends.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY & DIVERSITY POLICY

Event is open to all who wish to get involved. We all have our differences so we request everyone have tolerance, respect, and to teach LOVE. Bright Side Projects is an organization promoting equal opportunities to all who wish to get involved regardless of race, color, religion, gender identity, creed, sex, marital status, national origin, disability, age, industrial activity, sexual orientation, political affiliation or beliefs. We encourage peoples of diversity to unite and further the association’s mission of positively impacting our communities, the world, and the future.

For more questions on any of the above or how to get involved, contact us at brightside.tw (at) gmail.com

CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD

The CRC is a human rights treaty which sets out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children. We are so eager to incorporate this into our the structure of our workshops, adding an additional layer of protection to our safe space for people of all ages. In serving the best interest of the child, this benefits all. By abolishing a hierarchal “talking down” method, Bright Side safe spaces empowers everyone to speak up.

Our 4 main areas of concern include the following:
2. 兒童最佳利原則 (interest of the child)
3. 生命權,生存及發展權 (right to life and self development)

We’ve particularly focused on Article 2, 6, 13, 14, 17, 28 ,29 , 30, 31, 34, 39 and welcome you to read the convention in depth here.

2. 兒童最佳利原則 (interest of the child)
3. 生命權,生存及發展權 (right to life and self development)
